Real Madrid announced yesterday that it has signed a new contract with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. According to Forbes, the new contract will end in June 2021 thereby extending Ronaldo’s previous Real Madrid deal that was to expire after the 2017-18 season. His annual compensation is expected to be similar to his previous contract of over $50 million a year before taxes.
This new deal will see Ronaldo serving at the world’s most valuable soccer club until his 36th birthday. Ronaldo is only the second team athlete after Michael Jordan to rank as the top-paid athlete since 1990.
The three time FIFA player of the year has also been involved in the marketing and endorsement business, signing mega deals with global brands including Nike, Tag Heuer and Herbalife, and raking in approximately $32 million.
